The New Voices in Horror

The company is forming a New Voices in Horror division that will focus on amplifying unseen and unheard voices in the genre. Our slate champions female, queer, immigrant, and BIPOC storytellers and aims to tap into the diversity of perspectives and experiences they inhabit to create new and films that represent the next generation of horror. The genre has a long history representing and engaging with societal issues and our films will continue that tradition. This will provide partnership opportunities with a variety of nonprofit charitable organization and maximize corporate social responsibility.

Anika Benkov is a nonbinary filmmaker based in NYC who writes about the kinks in life and in ourselves, and growing pains at all ages. Their award-winning short, THE BINDING OF ITZIK, a queer, Hasidic, BDSM rom-com, received an SFFilm-Rainin Grant and was positively reviewed in The Forward.

Born and raised in Washington Heights, Dana sees the world through a unique lens. Her working-class background steeped in diversity and surrounded by creativity allows her to see nuances and discover new voices. She is an award-winning filmmaker and a member of the prestigious Producers Guild of America and New York Women in Film & Television. Her films have been screened at Sundance Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Urbanworld Film Festival, and have won an NAACP nomination for Outstanding Independent Feature.

Filmmaker

Pflaris is a writer and director. They are a BAFTA Connect member and an inaugural recipient of the Joel Schumacher / Sophia Cranshaw Mentorship Award from the Gotham Film & Media Institute. Their work has also won the Phil Johnston Comedy Grant. In 2024, they were a semi-finalist for the New Voices Filmmaker Grant by NewFest and supported by Netflix.

Hazel McKibbin is an award-winning British-American writer and director. Hazel received the Princess Grace Award Honoraria in Film. Trained as an editor, Hazel finds herself drawn towards realism, often through a feminist lens. Her directorial debut Doublespeak premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival and her second short She Always Wins premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.

Filmmaker

Mathilde Hauducoeur is a French American writer and director. She holds an MFA in Screenwriting and Directing from Columbia University, and a BA in Film Studies from Sarah Lawrence College. Her work explores the intricacies of female friendship, the constant interplay between violence and sparkles deeply fascinates her. Mathilde’s short film Ailes d’Ange et Plaies Ouvertes (Angel Wings and Open Wounds) has screened in Paris and New York, and her short film Pillow Talk will have its festival premiere this Spring. She was selected for Cine Qua Non’s 2023 Script Revision Lab.
